MR. BRIAN RUPP
“Dedicated to teaching you to play the music you love the best you can.”
Mr. Brian Rupp is The Music Castle’s master guitar instructor. His unique teaching method benefits all ages. He teaches all levels from the absolute beginner starting at age 5 to the advanced professional. The comfortable warm atmosphere of his lessons allows the student to grow at their own pace. He is patient, nurturing and has a sense of humor that rivals many good stand up comedians today. There is nothing like a good laugh to get the fingers going!
For the beginner Brian establishes a solid foundation in proper playing posture, chords/strumming, time/rhythm, single note technique for dexterity in the fingers, reading of chord chart and tablature notation and basic rock and popular music idioms.
As the student advances, they are encouraged to bring in a song that they really connect with and want to learn. Brian is then able to learn the song by ear off the recording, notate it and teach it to the student with emphasis on technique, proper style and expression. Brian’s unique method of teaching allows the student to craft their skill and gain a sense of accomplishment while learning their favorite song.
Brian’s students look forward to at home practice. They are excited about their favorite song rather than dread practice and equate it as a regurgitation of droll and repetitive unfamiliar exercises.
Brian’s professional guitar students seek his teaching to supplement their knowledge. He offers studies in advanced technique in styles such as Flamenco, Classical and Heavy Metal. He also specializes in traditional music notation, reading music theory, transcription and improvisation for aspiring songwriters.
Mr. Brian Rupp has been teaching both guitar and bass for over 11 years. Having been bitten by the rock bug early on, Brian started playing guitar at age 11. Early musical experiences on guitar included jazz studies in his high school vocational band. He also formed a Heavy Metal band Abraxas. They went on to produce two demos, a live video and generated local success with performances in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
He went on to win the honorary Randy Rhoads Memorial Scholarship Award, beating out other aspirants in a competition of solo guitar performance. He has his Bachelor Of Music Degree from California State University, Northridge.
Following college graduation, Brian went on to teach and perform on guitar and bass. He co-founded the band Nava from ’02-’04. They played through out Los Angeles and recorded a 5 song EP. He also recorded and performed on bass with the group In Need from ’97-’05.
Brian also plays solo Classical, Latin, Spanish and Jazz guitar for various settings and events such as weddings, restaurants, receptions and private parties.
